Why do you blog?

This week here at Kingdom Bloggers we're sharing why we blog.

For me there's just something special about the written word. I adore reading. From the time I first learned to write in elementary school, I've always written.

The most frequent forms my writing has taken are notes of thanks or encouragment to people, or personal journals. I've also written some poetry, some fiction, some work related curriculum, and some Bible study curriculum.

I'm not sure exactly why I started the whole blog thing, but I was just drawn to it. I know that I enjoy reading what others have to say on their blogs. I can not say that I'm on some "mission from God" (BTW - ever watch The Blues Brothers?) but I do know that I have a strong inner desire to just be who I am. I do not see myself as any kind of expert who is trying to teach others, or an apologist who is trying to persuade others. My desire is to be exactly who I am, to share my thoughts and experiences on my day to day life. My hope is that others who read what I write will be able to relate in some aspect to my thoughts and experiences and either be encouraged in their faith, or find faith in Christ to become more attractive. I also hope to stimulate people's thinking and generate useful discussion and interaction.

What about you, why do you blog?

I blog for the mostly the same reason. I love to write. I have journals that date back from the fourth grade and a packet of poetry from high school.

I started blogging because the change of being out in the world to being a mommy at home took a toll on me. Blogging helped me cope. I have very few readers and the most random blog in the universe...but I still love the creativity of it. And...when someone you never thought read makes a comment to you when they see you or sends you a message about something that touched them...it makes it all worth it.

BTW- I am VERY thankful you blog. :)

I Blog because it's the only way I know what I'm thinking!

And it's cheaper than Grafitti ... all that spray paint costs a lot you know. And you can be arrested for it.

Seriously though ... I mean it, seriously ... why does anyone write? Authors, poets, script writers and so on ... I asked my old friend Bill Shakespeare and this is what he said:

To Blog or not to Blog
That is the question.
Whether it is nobler in the mind
To keep one’s thoughts to oneself
Than reveal them to all
On screens large and small.
And by doing such
Suffer the slings and arrows
Of outrageous readers
Who’d rather Block you
Than read your feeble Tweeters.
Or to bravely face your qualms
And courageously Blog on
Regardless of your audience
Be it great or be it small;
Just Blog on into eternity
And have yourself a ball!

So there you have it. I'm blogging and having a ball!

I don't know why I blog. I mostly bolgged about NASCAR and motor sports with other fans for years giving my take on any particular race and still do to some extent. I even wrote several reports on races.

However about two years ago I felt compelled to write down my thoughts about my new journey in the Christian faith. Mostly it was for a record of my progress or lack of it.

I swore off posting the thoughts publicy recently and even stopped blogging altogether but for some reason I always come up with something to say that hits a nerve.

I do enjoy hearing others thought about faith and compare them to my so called faith. Sadly, I am way out of the box, messy, and wonder why God leads those in need of salvation or help to me of all people.

Maybe some day I will get the message.

Hi Tracy,

I blog trying to make sense of my own life.

Doesn't help much, but it a habit now.

I began keeping a diary/journal when I was a Boy Scout and read Dracula, a novel written in the form of diary entries. I thought it would be neat if I kept a record of my life too just in cast I ever had to fight a vampire or had some other great adventure.

So, for close to 50 years now I've kept a diary off and on--Only now pen and notebooks have given way to typing on air in a blog.

Someday my children may read the record of my life and understand, "Oh, that's why Dad acted so crazy".
